Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Broome to Cape Leveque - 210km

Today you pick up your campervan from the depot and if you haven't already visit one of Broome's supermarkets to stock up on supplies. Depart Broome and begin your Western Australia adventure by driving north to the Dampier Peninsula on the way to Cape Leveque. Along the way visit the coastal communities offering rich aboriginal culture and history as well as pristine beaches.

Day 2: Around Cape Leveque

A relaxing day on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula. Cape Leveque is a great way to unwind at the end of your 21 day northern Australia adventure. The picturesque coastline around Cape Leveque is truly spectacular and remains pristine. A great day exploring the Cape, strolling on the beach and watching the magnificent sunsets along this spectacular piece of the Kimberley. For the more adventurous, take a half day cultural tour of the cape or take on a guided or self guided fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling tour. Equipment is available for hire if you choose the self guided options.

Day 3: Cape Leveque to Broome - 220km

Drive from Cape Leveque to Broome at whatever time of day suits you. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Broome and which attractions you want to visit along the way. The Dampier Peninsula has some rich aboriginal culture and history amongst its coastal communities. You also have the opportunity to visit Willie Creek Pearl Farms or Cygnet Bay Pearl Farms. The only public access Pearl farms in the Kimberley. You also have the option of travelling a little further south and staying at one of the more remote campgrounds along this pristine coast such as Bark Hill.

Day 4: Broome to Eighty Mile Beach - 376km

Today you depart Broome, or wherever you chose to stay and continue your Western Australia adventure by driving south along the Great Northern Highway to Eighty Mile Beach. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Eighty Mile Beach and which of the coastal beaches you want to explore today. On arrival at Eighty Mile spend the afternoon exploring this pristine and untouched coastal environment.

Day 5: Eighty Mile Beach to Karratha (Point Sampson) - 477km

Today has you traveling to Karratha with a detour into Port Hedland which is the largest bulk port in the world. The loading of massive ships from huge stockpiles delivered by ridiculously long trains is an amazing site. Choose an optional 2hr Port Hedland Harbour Tour before driving to Karratha or Point Sampson this afternoon depending on how you prefer to spend Day 4. Watch the sunset from one of the elevated lookouts or along the Yaburara walking trail if you chose Karratha or spend the afternoon swimming and watching the sunset at Honeymoon Cove if you chose Point Sampson.

Day 6: Around Karratha (Point Sampson)

Spend the day exploring the historic towns of Roebourne & Cossack. The quality of restorations and the history of Cossack make it a must visit destination even if your not a history buff. Alternatively spend the day swimming at beautiful Hearson’s Cove Beach or Whitnell Bay, explore the Aboriginal petroglyphs at Murujuga National Park and visit the world class North West Shelf Visitors Centre to learn about another of Australia's massive infrastructure projects near Karratha.

Day 7: Karratha to Karijini - 356km

Today has you driving to Karijini National Park. Along the way you will drive through Millstream Colchester National Park with options to stop and swim at Python Pool or Deep Reach Pool. Along the way stop at Hammersley Gorge (Arguably the best gorge within Karijini National Park) before continuing the drive further into the main section of Karijini National Park

Day 8: Around Karijini

A full day exploring Karijini National Park and some of the most spectacular sights in Western Australia. An adventurous day trekking through the spectacular gorges in the western section of the National Park including Weano Gorge and Hancock Gorge and spend time swimming at Handrail Pool or Joffre Falls. Please note the walks today have difficult sections and are recommended for fit people with good mobility.

Day 9: Around Karijini

Another full day to explore the stunning gorges and swimming holes of eastern Karijini National Park. Spend the day relaxing and soaking in the surrounding landscape while you explore and swim in Circular Pool, Fortescue Falls & Fern Pool and take the late afternoon walk through Kalamina Gorge. A memorable day filled with relaxation and adventure.

Day 10: Karijini to Exmouth - 569km

An early morning start as you begin driving from Karijini National Park to Exmouth. Along the way stop at Tom Price and consider doing the guided tour of Rio Tinto’s massive open cut iron ore mine. Alternatively drive up to Mount Nameless and enjoy the breathtaking views of the mine and surrounding Pilbara landscape. Continue your journey towards Exmouth spending the night at one of the commercial or community (free) campgrounds along the way. You dont have to try to push yourself to make the 700km into Exmouth all today.

Day 11: Around Ningaloo Reef

Spend the morning finishing your drive into Exmouth and spend the rest of the day exploring around Ningaloo Marine Park. Australia's most accessible fringing reef system and unique because it is one of only two coral reefs in the world that have formed on the western side of a continental land mass. Explore the pristine beaches and snorkel sites of this world famous marine park. Alternatively spend the day swimming with Whales Sharks (seasonal) or take a day trip to the outer reef and swim with the Manta Rays (year round) - the Manta Ray option will require you to have made it to Exmouth the night before.

Day 12: Exmouth to Coral Bay - 150km

Spend the morning visiting the lookouts and doing one of the spectacular walks in Cape Range National Park before undertaking the short drive to Coral Bay in the heart of Ningaloo Reef. The snorkelling along this section of reef is a highlight of most peoples trip down the west coast. Snorkel in the bay just in front of town or one of the other sensational snorkelling sites north or south of town.

Day 13: Coral Bay to Carnarvon - 238km

A morning stroll to the shark nursery in Coral Bay before driving the 240 km from Coral Bay to Carnarvon. Visit the attractions around Carnarvon or drive out and spend the afternoon exploring Point Quobba “The Aquarium” and visit the spectacular site that is The Blowholes

Day 14: Around Carnarvon (Red Bluff or Kennedy Range NP)

Spend the day exploring north of Carnarvon from Red Bluff all the way up to Gnarloo Station. This section of coastline with its magic snorkeling sites is little known in the mainstream and allows you to explore the south end of Ningaloo Reef without any of the crowds and associated tourism infrastructure. It also lays claim to some of the best surfing breaks in the world. Alternatively spend the day driving out to Kennedy Range National Park and immerse yourself in some of the spectacular walks that this National Park is finally starting to get recognised for.

Day 15: Carnarvon to Shark Bay (Monkey Mia) - 325km

Today has you driving from Carnarvon to Shark Bay. Spend the morning visiting the Carnarvon Space Tracking Station before driving onto Denham or Monkey Mia. Along the way you have the opportunity to stop and visit the unique natural attractions in World Heritage Listed Shark Bay. The pristine environment and hypersalination has protected a jewel in the West Australian coast. Visit Hamelin Pool and the Stromatolites (oldest known form of life on earth) and Shell Beach with its billions of tiny cockle shells (amazing).

Day 16: Around Shark Bay

A full day exploring the World Heritage Listed Shark Bay. Depending on your interests spend the day driving out to the Western most tip of the Australian Mainland at Steep Point. Alternatively a more relaxing day exploring Francois Peron National Park with its pristine beaches lagoons and abundance of marine life.

Day 17: Shark Bay (Monkey Mia) to Kalbarri - 374km

This morning visit the dolphins of Monkey Mia where each morning wild dolphins come to shore to be hand fed. One of the great experiences in Western Australia. Feeding is tightly managed so not everyone gets to feed a dolphin but everyone is close by to see this amazing phenomenon. After experiencing the dolphins depart Monkey Mia and head to Kalbarri stopping off in Kalbarri National Park and the Lookouts .

Day 18: Around Kalbarri

A full day to relax and/or explore the stunning attractions around Kalbarri. Spend the morning visiting Kalbarri National Park taking in the views and walks at Natures Window, Z Bend and The Loop. After an adventurous day in the National Park spend the afternoon relaxing at one of Kalbarri's beaches, take a cruise along the Murchison River or while away a couple of hours at Rainbow Jungle Australia largest privately owned bird park.

Day 19: Kalbarri to Geraldton - 154km

Today has you driving from Kalbarri to Geraldton. Spend the morning exploring the stunning coastal scenery south of Kalbarri which is a surprise to most people who aren't expecting it. Choose to visit Natural Bridge, Eagle Gorge and Rainbow Valley before continuing the drive onto Geraldton stopping off to see the amazing Pink Lake along the way.

Day 20: Geraldton to Nambung (Pinnacles) - 241km

Today has you driving from Geraldton to Nambung (The Pinnacles). Spend the morning visiting the HMAS Sydney Memorial or one of the other highlights in Geraldton before driving to Nambung National Park and completing the Pinnacles Desert Loop Drive. Before or after the drive make sure you detour to the magnificent views & white sandy beach of Hangover Bay.

Day 21: Nambung (Pinnacles) to Perth - 257km

A free morning to relax and explore more of the region around Nambung National Park before driving to Perth. Spend as little or as long as you like at around Jurien Bay and Cervantes depending on what time you want to arrive in Perth and which attractions you want to visit around Perth. Please note your vehicle needs to be returned before 4pm.
