Holiday Summary

Day 1: Arrive Perth

Arrive in Perth and pick up your vehicle before settling into your accommodation. Depending on your interests and where you stay tonight (refer available options), spend time on the beach at Scarborough, stroll through Kings Park or indulge in a meal and coffee at Fremantle.  If you have the time to spend another day in Perth consider the day visiting other great attractions including the Perth Mint or Museum of Western Australia. Alternatively consider a day trip to the island paradise that is Rottnest island just 19 km off the coast of Perth City.

Day 2: Perth to Geraldton via Nambung National Park (Pinnacles) - 415km

Today has you beginning your west coast adventure. The initial 257km drive north takes you through a region known as the Turquoise Coast. Experience market gardens, fabulous farming scenery and extensive ocean views. Over 200,000 people visit the area annually visiting world class attractions such as the fascinating Pinnacles Desert. Spend some time walking around these statuesque limestone pillars rising out of the sand like ancient ruins. In the afternoon explore the attractions along the coast north of The Pinnacles including Lake Thetis home to some of the earliest organisms on Earth that produced the oxygen for subsequent life forms. Jurien Bay is the largest coastal town and offers wonderful beaches protected by the islands and reefs which lie just a few kilometres from the shoreline.

Day 3: Geraldton to Kalbarri - 155km

Today has you leaving the Turquoise Coast and heading north to Kalbarri. Before leaving Geraldton make sure you visit the HMAS Sydney Memorial, free guided tours run every morning. Continuing north you will come across the amazing Pink Lake which is definitely worth a quick stop and some photos. This afternoon relax and explore the striking coast as you approach Kalbarri. The lookouts, beaches, headlands and walking tracks along this compact stretch of coast are remarkable. Choose from 10 available options depending on your interests (each have something unique to offer). A relaxing evening at Kalbarri township looking out over the Mighty Murchison River.

Day 4: Around Kalbarri - 50km

Today you have time to explore the magnificent Kalbarri National Park. It is one of the great National Parks in Australia, becoming a vast carpet of wildflowers between August & October, with elaborate twists and turns of the Murchison River as it cuts its way to the sea. Spend the day exploring the spectacular lookouts and walks including visiting Z-Bend gorge, “The Loop” and the iconic “Natures Window”. Don’t miss the stunning new Skywalk at ‘the Loop’ where you are perched 100m above the gorge. By late afternoon return to the beach to watch the sunset over the water with the rich red cliffs behind you. A fantastic way to cap off the day.

Day 5: Kalbarri to Shark Bay (Monkey Mia) - 374km

Departing Kalbarri, today has you driving to Shark Bay & Monkey Mia. The bottlenose dolphins are best seen tomorrow morning so today is all about exploring the attractions along the way. From Kalbarri National Park, drive the 350km to Denham exploring the majestic Shark Bay World Heritage Area visiting the Stromatolites (descendant to the oldest life form on earth) and world famous Shell Beach with its billions of tiny cockle shells (amazing). Views from Eagle Bluff or a tour of the fantastic Ocean Park Aquarium cap off a great day.

Day 6: Shark Bay (Monkey Mia) to Carnarvon - 325km

Spend the morning at Monkey Mia, globally recognised as one of the best and most reliable places for dolphin interaction in the world. Feeding the dolphins at Monkey Mia is one of the great WA experiences, however please note not everyone gets to feed a dolphin and very strict controls apply. After your interaction with wild dolphins spend the afternoon driving to Carnarvon. On arrival choose to spend the afternoon around Carnarvon visiting attractions such as the Carnarvon Space Tracking Station or the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct.

Day 7: Around Carnarvon

Spend the day exploring north of Carnarvon from Red Bluff all the way up to Gnarloo Station. This section of coastline with its magic snorkeling sites is little known in the mainstream and allows you to explore the south end of Ningaloo Reef without any of the crowds and associated tourism infrastructure. It also lays claim to some of the best surfing breaks in the world. Alternatively spend the day driving out to Kennedy Range National Park and immerse yourself in some of the spectacular walks that this National Park is finally starting to get recognised for.

Day 8: Carnarvon to Coral Bay - 238km

Today has you departing Carnarvon and heading for Coral Bay where you will spend the day exploring the pristine beaches and abundant coral at Coral Bay. In contrast to other locations the coral starts right at the water’s edge and offers very easy access to swimmers and snorkelers of all ages. Self guide the reef or take a guided tour on a glass bottom boat. One of the great experiences on the WA coast is spending the time exploring around Coral Bay.

Day 9: Around Coral Bay

A full day exploring the pristine beaches and abundant coral at Coral Bay. In contrast to other locations the coral starts right at the water’s edge and offers very easy access to swimmers and snorkelers of all ages. Self guide the reef or take a guided tour on a glass bottom boat or even a day trip to swim with Manta Rays (year round) or Whales Sharks (seasonal – please note shorter season than Exmouth). One of the great experiences along the WA coast is spending the time exploring around Coral Bay.

Day 10: Coral Bay to Exmouth - 150km

A full day to relax and explore the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area between Coral Bay and Exmouth. Spend the morning walking out to the shark nursery north of Coral Bay or take a morning quad bike tour to Oyster Bridge or Five Fingers for sensational remote Ningaloo Reef snorkeling away from the crowds. After a memorable morning around Coral Bay take the relatively short drive up to Exmouth stopping at the stunning road side lookouts of Cape Range National Park. For the more adventurous consider the walk to the Shotgun Canyon Lookout – Stunning (4WD required)

Day 11: Around Ningaloo Reef

A relaxing day catching up with more swimming and snorkeling in this pristine world class environment. Drift Snorkel at Turquoise Bay and Oyster Stacks, swim at stunning Sandy Bay before spending the afternoon on a Yardie Creek Boat Cruise or do the walk in Mandu Mandu Gorge. A great day having experienced all the highlights around the North West Cape and the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area. Alternatively spend the day swimming with Whales Sharks (seasonal)

Day 12: Exmouth to Tom Price - 569km

An early morning start as you begin the long drive to Karijini National Park. Today is a long days drive with minimal attractions along the way. You don’t have to try to push yourself to make the 700km all the way into Karijini today but rather break up the trip by staying in Tom Price. Tom Price gives you the option to do the guided tour of Rio Tinto’s massive open cut iron ore mine and to drive up to Mount Nameless and enjoy the breathtaking views of the mine and surrounding Pilbara landscape.

Day 13: Tom Price to Karijini - 81km

A short drive from Tom Price and a full day exploring Karijini National Park and some of the most spectacular sights in Western Australia. An adventurous day trekking through the spectacular gorges in the western section of the National Park including Weano Gorge and Hancock Gorge and spend time swimming at Handrail Pool or Joffre Falls. Please note the walks today have difficult sections and are recommended for fit people with good mobility.

Day 14: Around Karijini

Another full day to explore the stunning gorges and swimming holes of eastern Karijini National Park. Spend the day relaxing and soaking in the surrounding landscape while you explore and swim in Circular Pool, Fortescue Falls & Fern Pool and take the late afternoon walk through Kalamina Gorge. A memorable day filled with relaxation and adventure.

Day 15: Karijini to Karratha - 356km

Today has you leaving Karijini National Park. You have the option to drive to Karratha, Port Hedland or Marble Bar today depending on your interests. We will provide you with all the information you need to help you make the decision. Assuming you choose the Karratha option along the drive from Karijini stop at Hammersley Gorge (Arguably the best gorge in the Karijini National Park). You will then drive through Millstream Colchester National Park with options to stop and swim at Python Pool or Deep Reach Pool before continuing the drive and arriving into Karratha.

Day 16: Karratha to Eighty Mile Beach - 477km

Spend the morning exploring the Aboriginal petroglyphs at Murujuga National Park or visit the North West Shelf Visitors Centre to learn about one of Australia’s massive infrastructure projects Offshore Gas. Today has you traveling to Eighty Mile Beach with a quick detour into Port Hedland which is the largest bulk port in the world. The loading of massive ships from huge stockpiles delivered by ridiculously long trains is an amazing site. Arrive at Eighty Mile Beach and spend the afternoon exploring this pristine coastal environment.

Day 17: Eighty Mile Beach to Broome - 376km

Today has you driving north along the Great Northern Highway to Broome. Spend the morning exploring the pristine and untouched coastal environment at any of the access points along Eighty Mile Beach. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive in Broome. On arrival into Broome spend the afternoon relaxing and marvelling at the sweeping white beaches, rich red outcrops and blazing turquoise water of Broome. Sunset in Broome is a real highlight.

Day 18: Broome to Cape Leveque

Spend the day driving from Broome to Cape Leveque at whatever time suites. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Cape Leveque with its rugged pindan cliffs and sparkling tropical waters. The Cape Leveque Rd north offers rich aboriginal culture and history amongst its coastal communities as well as pristine beaches.

Day 19: Around Cape Leveque

A relaxing day on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula. Cape Leveque is a great way to unwind at the end of your 21 day northern Australia adventure. The picturesque coastline around Cape Leveque is truly spectacular and remains pristine. A great day exploring the Cape, strolling on the beach and watching the magnificent sunsets along this spectacular piece of the Kimberley. For the more adventurous, take a half day cultural tour of the cape or take on a guided or self guided fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling tour. Equipment is available for hire if you choose the self guided options.

Day 20: Cape Leveque to Broome

Today has you driving from Cape Leveque to Broome at whatever time of day suits you. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Broome and which attractions you want to visit along the way. The Dampier Peninsula has some rich aboriginal culture and history amongst its coastal communities. You also have the opportunity to visit Willie Creek Pearl Farms. The only public access Perth farm in the Kimberley. After arriving into Broome your vehicle and check into your accommodation. Package assumes you will return the vehicle at the same time as pick up on day 1.

Day 21: Depart Broome

A free morning to relax and swim at Cable Beach, shop for pearls or explore more of Broome’s highlights depending on what time and how you are leaving Broome.
